Sister School Relationship
On Tuesday, 1 August 2017, Principal Dunning of EHSHS signed a Sister School Agreement at EHSHS with Principal Matsuura of Taishi Senior High School, Hyogo Prefecture, Japan. The occasion was commemorated with the planting of a Japanese cherry blossom in our school garden. We look forward to building a strong relationship with Taishi Senior High School in future via various teacher and student exchanges and initiatives.
Opportunities for Student Exchange and Study Tours
As part of our relationship with Taishi Senior High, EHSHS takes a small group of students biannually on a Culture and Language Study Tour to Hyogo Prefecture for approximately two weeks in September/October (dates to be confirmed). This tour involves a guided tour of culturally and historically significant landmarks in the Kansai region, along with experiences of Japanese school and home life with Japanese host families of Taishi Senior High School in a home-stay arrangement. Throughout the tour students will be under the care and supervision of teachers of EHSHS and Taishi Senior High School.
While it is recommended that participants have some background knowledge of and interest in Japanese language and culture, it is not essential. However, students must be able to demonstrate a willingness to learn and be able to readily adapt to different lifestyles. All applications will be considered carefully and undergo a merit-based process.
To express an interest for your child to participate in the proposed ‘Hyogo Culture and Language Study Tour 2020’, please email to EHSHS teacher Megan Goto (Japanese) firstname.lastname@example.org.
Opportunities for Hosting Japanese Students
Every year we look forward to the opportunity to host students from Taishi Senior High School for short-term home-stays with families of EHSHS. Students from Taishi High School usually visit Western Australian during late July/August and it would be wonderful to be able to offer them places to stay with our students to experience Eastern Hills Senior High School and community life.
To express an interest for your family to host a Japanese student of Taishi Senior High School when the opportunity arises, please email to EHSHS teacher Megan Goto (Japanese) email@example.com.
About Taishi Senior High School
Taishi Senior High School consists of students that are equivalent to Years 10-12 in Australian schools. It is a progressive high school that places emphasis on preparing students (as life-long learners) for successful and productive lives after school. Taishi’s cross-curricular educational programs aim to build student abilities in three key areas; language learning, academic and vocational learning and communication. Complementing their compulsory subjects, students have the flexibility to choose general elective subjects to meet their individual needs and special interests.
In addition to their yearly language study tour to Western Australia, Taishi Senior High School also participates in a language study tour to Taiwan each July.
Taishi students enjoy a wide variety of school sporting and cultural clubs as part of their after school extra-curricular program as follows. These clubs occur after school hours on campus under the instruction and guidance of teachers at the school.
